This year’s series hasn’t yet hit our TV screens and it’s already in jeopardy.
Despite two new judges joining the panel, Simon Cowell has claimed it’s “make or break” for X Factor this year.
Blaming poor winners over the past few years, the music and media mogul is desperate to return the talent show to it’s former glory.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Simon said: “It does feel like make or break this year but I feel like every year is make or break, to be honest.
“There were certain years when certain people won and it was like ‘Oh Christ’.”
Despite winner flops and questionable contestants, Simon has splashed the cash to give this year’s X factor a new look and a fresh feel.
New judges Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora will be joined by new presenters Caroline Flack and Olly Murs as the show tries to pull in the viewers later this year.
Judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has been brought back with a pay rise to keep devoted fans happy.
Coming up against stiff competition in the ratings war such as Strictly Come Dancing, Simon is keen to see viewing figures rise above the record low last year which saw just 8.4 million tune in for the final.
Simon said: “Last year’s show made me realise there’s still a lot of talent to be discovered.
You never forget those days when you feel a star is being born.”
With the music talent show set to hit television screens later this year, Simon is pulling out all the stops to return the show to the top of the ratings.
When asked if he had ever considered abandoning the show, the 55-year-old replied: “For sure. 100 per cent. When we started these shows it was all about giving someone a break who deserves a break.”
With millions of hopefuls already auditioning this year to grab their chance at fame, we can all hope the X Factor will return to it’s former glory.
