The Coronation Street actor, who plays bad boy Gary Windass on the ITV soap, opened up about how he proposed to fiancee Rachael Isherwood during a trip to the Lake District.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, he said: “I told her to shut her eyes. When she opened them I was down on one knee with the ring. I was looking up at Rachael, with my knees getting wet, and I just said: ‘Will you marry me?’”
He added: “In the moment before I proposed I was shaking like a leaf.”
While the bride-to-be described the proposal as ‘perfect’, it was Mikey who was left in tears after the romantic gesture was carried out.
He confessed: “I called my mum and I just couldn’t stop crying.”
Now, as he looks ahead to the wedding day, the 28-year-old is hoping that he won’t have a repeat performance at the alter.
He explained: “I am dreading that I’ll just cry my way through it! I am very sensitive and bawling my eyes out all the time. My hard man reputation is absolutely ruined!”
The Corrie hunk gushed about his gorgeous wife-to-be, explaining that he realised he’d found the one ‘when he first met her’.
He said: “Rachael is the best thing that has ever happened to me – and I don’t mind telling everybody! She’s changed my life for the better.”
