This time last year all of the X Factor regulars had renewed their deals – but we can reveal that the music mogul Simon Cowell still hasn’t handed out any contracts yet.
Now host Dermot O’Leary, fears he may be facing the aXe Factor as big boss Simonkicks off the show’s revamp.
He told 3am: “We normally sit down February or March but Simon wants to change stuff [this time].
“So I need to see what changes he is going to make before a) I know if he wants me and b) whether I’m suitable for those changes.
“If he turns round and says ‘half your gig is a voiceover’, then I will have to think about it. If he lets me do my thing then of course I would do it.”
Luckily Dermot has been too busy cutting some serious shapes on the dance floor for Comic Relief to worry about the ITV show.
One pal who’s been teaching him how to cha cha cha is Strictly Come Dancing winner Caroline Flack.
He said: “I’m doing the Charleston with her and it’s now my favourite dance. I’ve got a lot of the X Factor dance team helping. Two of them are going to be with me all the way through.”
And 3am has sampled his moves and we can reveal he does a mean sidestep, but one person who won’t be helping him on the dance floor is Simon himself.
He revealed: “I asked Simon if he could help out but he said ‘then I’d have to dance.’ But he has been very supportive.”
Dermot visited Kisumu in Kenya for Comic Relief and spent 24 hours with three street children, Maurice 14, and Hannington and Fred, both 12.
He slept rough on a doorstep and narrowly missed a car collision.
He told us: “I said ‘do you not want to sleep somewhere quiet and dark?’
“They said ‘no, if we are in the dark we can get physically abused’. I tried really hard not to cry, they are just kids.”
