Zayn Malik has admitted he wasn’t happy with One Direction “for a while” – as it was confirmed he WILL go solo.
The singer claimed that he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old” but has given his first interview since leaving the biggest boyband in the world where he admitted he feelings.
It comes after Zayn quit the band earlier this week, halfway through his world tour.
He told The Sun: “You know, I did try to do something that I wasn’t happy doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people’s happiness.
“And that was mainly the fans. And I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them.”
The star was filmed crying on stage in his last performance recently and added he hoped he had not let any fans down.
He added: “I’m only upset (because) I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way.
“That’s the main thing that I don’t want to happen.
“It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not real to me.”
During the chat Zayn slammed any claims of a rift between him and his bandmates Harry, Niall, Louis and Liam, saying he expects them to carry on for a long time to come.
This week Zayn was pictured heading into a recording studio smoking a cigarette a day after quitting the band.
According to The Sun, he’s already working on his first solo material with Naughty Boy.
But Zayn added he wasn’t going to rush into anything.
He explained: “I’m just going to chill man, I’m just going to be me for a while.”
