Harrison Ford plane crash: Actor's wife Calista Flockhart looks emotional after racing to star's bedside

Harrison Ford’s wife Calista Flockhart looked emotional after visiting the star in hospital this week.

The Hollywood actor crash landed his vintage plane on at Penmar Golf Course in Venice, Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon and remains in hospital with a broken pelvis and ankle, according to reports.

The Ally MacBeal star, who married Harrison in 2010 after eight years together, had arrived at the medical facility shortly after her husband did, according to People magazine.

Photographs show Calista dabbing her face with a tissue and looking bleary-eyed as she drove from Santa Monica hospital after rushing to her husband’s bedside.

A source told People: “She looked concerned and stayed with Harrison until late last night.”

The 50-year-old star is also said to have taken their teenage son, Liam, to school Friday morning and then went back to see her husband.

Harrison’s son Ben, with Mary Marquardt, also posted on Twitter: “Dad is OK. Battered but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man (sic).”

Witnesses say they saw the 72-year-old actor bleeding profusely from the face after the crash and an off-duty surgeon has told of the incredible moment he gave medical treatment to Harrison.

Sanjay Khuran was in the midst of a game when the Star Wars icon plunged onto the fairway in a World War II aircraft.

He rushed over to offer help and quickly recognised the actor.

Khurana said he acted on instinct, running to the scene to ensure the pilot was safe.

“He was stunned a bit,” Mr Khurana told ABC News. “He was moaning and in pain.”

“It was obvious by his face, it was Harrison Ford. I’m old enough, or young enough, to have watched all his Star Wars films. So, it was obvious.

“You don’t go golfing expecting to see an airplane crash and to help extract someone and realise it’s someone you know from the movies, right? It’s fairly bizarre,” he said.

“But as a surgeon, I’ve been practicing for almost over a decade now, you deal with urgent situations. So you have to do your best for someone in distress.”

Mr Khuran checked Ford’s airway and pulse before medics quickly arrived on the scene.

Support for the actor flooded in from his fellow Hollywood stars.

His Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, said: “Glad to hear Harrison is doing well. Get well soon. May all his future flights be green-screen.”

Frank Marshall, a producer on one of the Indiana Jones movies, also tweeted saying “Indy is fine”.

This injury may affect Ford’s work schedule.

He has just finished his comeback as Hans Solo in his fourth Star Wars movie, set for release in December.

During filming a door fell on his leg, breaking it and holding up filming for six weeks.

The accident involved the spacecraft door of the Millennium Falcon slamming shut.

On Wednesday it was announced he signed up for the sequel to Blade Runner netting him £6million.

Speaking previously about his love of flying the father-of-five said he “loved the freedom of flight.”
