Ray Rice Grievance Settlement With Ravens Reportedly Worth $1.588 Million

Running back Ray Rice and the Baltimore Ravens came to terms on a settlement regarding his wrongful termination grievance in January, and the particulars of that settlement are now reportedly known.

Baby Money: Ray Rice Grievance Settlement With Ravens Reportedly Worth $1.588 Million

Reports Bleacher Report:

According to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun, the Ravens paid the 28-year-old three-time Pro Bowler $1.588 million in an effort to prevent the case from being heard by an arbitrator.

The Ravens cut Rice in September 2014 after video emerged that showed him striking his then-fiancee and current wife Janay Rice at an Atlantic City casino.

Although Rice hasn’t caught on with another NFL team since being pushed out of Baltimore, he is hopeful an organization will roll the dice on him, per Wilson:

I’m optimistic that I’ll get a second chance. I don’t think this boils down to whether I can play football or not. Obviously I know that. I just think there’s so much more that comes with it. I know the PR side of it will be tough. I understand that. I just know that if a team that really truly genuinely looks at me and understood that this guy made a horrible mistake then they can structure a plan for me.

Rice’s play was on the decline prior to his release, as he averaged just 3.1 yards per carry in 2013. As he continues to approach the dreaded age of 30—at which many running backs break down—his chances of catching on elsewhere may be decreasing.

Although Rice came away with a hefty settlement to close the book on his time with the Ravens, it is entirely possible that his playing days in the NFL are over as well.
