Lewis Hamilton has opened his heart for the first time about his shock split from Nicole Scherzinger and insisted: “I’m stronger than ever.”
The F1 ace’s life went into a spin on and off the track after his latest major break-up from the former X Factor judge.
But the 30-year-old insists he feels “impenetrable” and will not let his split ruin the defence of his championship title, which he starts in Australia on Sunday.
Lewis explained: “Of course, in the previous years it has been the case where it’s affected my life in general.
“Last year, I adopted, maybe the word is a mental attitude that was impenetrable.
“But I feel that I still carry that kind of mentality from last year and whilst it’s not been easy, I feel stronger than ever.
“Having been in this position before, I don’t feel that it’s going to be a problem.”
The last time he and Pussycat Doll Nicole split he described his F1 victories as “a bandage” over his aching heart.
And the globe-trotting race ace admitted his travelling lifestyle helped to keep him away from his Monaco home filled with painful memories of his ex.
But at the start of last season Lewis revealed that being reunited with 36-year-old Nicole had helped invigorate his bid for glory.
He had also put his split with his father Anthony as manager and Simon Fuller’s team XIX Entertainment behind him.
But Lewis said it’s not often that everything in life is so perfectly aligned.
He added: “It’s like once in a blue moon it’s all in line but I still feel like I’ve got enough in place to do what I need to do and to be the best I can be this year.”
